NO TEAM remains undefeated at the halfway mark of the Top Video Squash competition, and only one team, D-Grade’s Bank Hotel is yet to record a win.

A-Grade’s Mr Pizza hold a comfortable 11 point lead; B-Grade’s Ray White Real Estate has only a two point margin; C-Grade’s Momsen Motors has a small buffer of 5 points and D-Grade’s The Highway Store also a very small lead of 2 points.

Players and spectators were enthralled with the match between the number ones, CB Smash Repairs’ Chris Thomas and V & H Motors sub Elijah Morrison. Elijah started like a man on a mission winning the first game 15-5, Chris began to find his rhythm, fighting back winning the next two 15-13, 15-14, than Elijah won a close fourth 17-16, with the last going to Chris 15-13, the match had everything – long rallies, deft drop shots, crisp volleys, with both players trying to exert their authority, producing what is probably the match of the year.

Two teams came within a whisker of gaining maximum points, David Scott Electricals thumping EI Pell P/L 14-5, Robert Blacker being the spoiler beating David Simpson 3-2, with also a strong resistance from sub Damon Welsford losing to David Kelland 2-3, other winners were Tony van der Hout 3-0, sub Matt O’Brien 3-0, Kelly Parbery 3-0.

The other team was Slaters Fuel Service defeating a fighting ID Dickson 14-8, sub Megan Zonneveld beat Grant Smith 3-0. Ashley Smith beat Sharlene Smith 3-1, Simon Bateman beat Jane Thelan 3-2, Greg Coman beat Julie Metcalf 3-2 and Joanne Warren lost to Thomasina Fox 2-3.

The Highway Store defeated third placed Barbecues Galore 3-2 on rubbers after the games were locked at 10-all.

Adrian Willburger defeated Annette Haigh 3-0, Daniel Boyle lost to Lisa Murray 1-3, Abbie Rodd lost to Ricky Luke 2-3, Ros Russell defeated Cheryl Morris 3-1, and Roger Peters lost to Luke Keft 1-3.

Ray White Real Estate’s Janelle Sturt subbed up two lines to defeat Goodyear Tyres Alan Parbery 17-16, 15-5, 10-15, 15-9.

Megan Zonneveld subbed up twice winning both 3-1, 3-0, plus her own match 3-0.

The recent change in daylight saving time and the coincidental drop in evening temperature, seemed to have suddenly also increased the number of subs.

There were 15 subs this week for 57 games, the worst affected was the A-Grade’s match between V & H Motors and CB Smash Repairs, who had used four subs.

Top Video Player of the Week: Megan Zonneveld.

Duty Officer for the week: Tuesday Gerard Hanscombe, Wednesday Robert Blacker, Thursday Dennis Curtis.
