Mayor Chris Vardon is the undisputed King of the Eurobodalla… and he’s got the gown to prove it.

On Friday, August 24, Mayor Vardon along with more than a dozen other ‘prominent residents’ will dress-up for ‘Silly Day’, an initiative of the Friends of Fiona Lodge Committee aimed at raising much needed funds for the community project.

Each person will spend the entire work day in a ‘costume designed to humiliate’ – Mayor Vardon will be dressing up as King Henry VIII.

Detectives from Batemans Bay Police Station will team up to form the old ‘Homicide Squad’ for the day, complete with a Holden Kingswood and bad, 1960s-style safari suits.

Alan Ball from the Commonwealth Bank will reportedly be wearing some sort of ballerina outfit, while our very own Bay Post/Southern Star editor Chris Graham is, appropriately, planning to wear a large nappy complete with an oversized dummy (to spit).

Deputy Mayor Rob Pollock has agreed to dress-up for the day and is open to suggestions of outfits.

Residents are being urged to support ‘Silly Day’ by sponsoring individuals to humiliate themselves.

All money raised will go towards the ongoing running and maintenance of Fiona Lodge, a get-away beach house for families who have a relative diagnosed with a terminal illness.

You can find sponsorship forms throughout the Bay CBD, or by approaching individuals concerned and offering them a tidy sum to dress up.

The fundraiser will culminate in a supper dance at the Batemans Bay Bowling Club on August 25.

Cost is $10 and includes a light supper (plus a parade from the humiliated particpants).

Other participants include: Dr Murray Barrell, 2EC’s Graham McGillivray, Steve Southgate, Cynthia Hill (Historical Society), Peter Warner (Peppercorn Cafe), Cr Pam Green (Elaine’s Pies), Maureen Nathan (Old Mogo Town), Phil Bonham (Bay Soldiers’ Club) and Geoff Perrem (Batemans Bay High).

All participants (and their costumes) will be profiled in the pages of the Bay Post/Southern Star in the comming weeks.
