THE second round of the Grand Hotel sponsored Bega Tennis Club Night competition was completed last week with some great tennis being played throughout the two nights of competition.

In Division 1 Mark Anderson defeated Jeff Tipping 33-games to 26 in the first match Mark’s team winning four sets and proving the better team on the night.

The second match in Division 1 was a close contest throughout the night with Norm Jamieson’s team winning the last set over Clinton Peel’s team to win the match 31-games to 25.

Division 2 players performed well during the night with two very even contests and two other comfortable results.

Maria Caragher and Bob Deighton’s team had a great battle throughout their match with four tie-breaker sets and two 6/2 results.

However, it was a win to Maria’s team winning three of the tie breaker sets to come away with the 31/29 result.

Steve Robinson and Howard Blacker also had a close match with Steve coming away with the 25/23 game win.

Richard Johnston’s team continued on with winning form to defeat Greg Bethell 33/20 and Chris Burn’s team defeated David Smith 31 games to 20.

Alf Caldwell continued on with winning form in Division 3 to defeat Margaret Deighton 32 games to 21.

Trish Sly and team also followed up with their second win defeating Wendy Carless 34 games to 23.

Ray Spencer and Linda Whyman had the best match of the night with Ray coming away with a close 29/27 game win.

The last match in Division 3 was a comfortable 36/24 win to Robert Lucas over Carny Lucas.

Division 4 players are still settling into their competition and they are hoping for better tennis this week.

Rebecca McPaul defeated Tim Lukins 24/20, Warren Peel defeated Donna Gilmour 33/17, and Kerry Wheatley defeated Carol Cooper 36/18.

Division 3 – WM Rixon Auctioneers (6) v Momsen Motors (4); Bega Valley Tiles (6) v Highway Store (2); Bega Valley Pets and Aquarium (4) v Bega Village Motor Inn (4); Griffith Tierney Solicitors (6) v RD Miller Contractors (4); Hayes Haulage (2) has the bye.

Division 4 – Top Video (4) v Bega Pizza (4); Rodney Griffin Pty Ltd (2) v Mobil Bega (4); PJ O’Brien Electronics (4) v Geoff Metzler and Associates (6); and David Scott Electricals (6) has the bye.

This is the third week of competition and players are reminded fees are due this week.
