THE Bega Valley region will benefit from a Federal Government grant of $29,700 for an employment-generating project funded under the Regional Assistance Program.
The Federal Member for Eden-Monaro, Mr Gary Nairn, said the South East NSW Area Consultative Committee had endorsed the Rural Tourism Network marketing project as a significant employment generating opportunity for the local community.
The Rural Tourism Network marketing project will deliver a marketing plan for the network which is based in Bega.
Mr Nairn said project activities would include research to establish an inventory of all accommodation outlets in the Bega Valley Shire; publication and distribution of a map indicating rural tourism locations and service providers; research and development of materials for recreational, farm, ecological and educational tours; and promotion and marketing of the Bega Basket.
“The marketing plan aims to increase visitations to the region thereby generating additional economic activity and providing a stimulus to jobs growth in the Bega Valley,” he said.
“This project demonstrates how a partnership between government and the community can enhance local employment opportunities in the region.
“While employment generating projects such as this one will be welcomed I will still continue to lobby my cabinet colleagues for further funding for additional local employment generating projects.
“By accessing local skills and experience we can achieve sustainable employment growth that will benefit the whole community,” Mr Nairn said.
